About Kalpataru

Kalpataru Vidya Samsthe is one of the premier educational trusts doing yeomen service to the rural people with its various educational institutions. It was established in 1961.
Tiptur, being a small town, far away from bigger cities, was deprived of institutions of higher studies during 1960s. The students had to go either to Mysore or to Bangalore if they wanted to pursue their studies beyond PU level. Many students couldn’t afford this and higher education was a dream and probably would have remained so but for some extraordinary visionaries.

Though people of various cross sections of the society contributed to this noble cause of spreading the knowledge it was Sri A.C. Pallagatti and J.R. Mahalingaiah who took the lead. Sri A.C. Pallagatti, selfless philanthropist he was, donated huge amount as initial amount for the building of “Kalpataru College,” which is the first college started by the Samsthe. Hard work and visionary zeal of the founder Principal   Prof. J.R. Mahalingaiah paved the path of success for the college as Kalpataru College attained the reputation as centre of excellence in a very short span of time. Kalpataru College which started with around 270 students and barely three rooms blossomed into an academic centre with vast green campus, well equipped laboratories, automated library and a number of classrooms. Incidentally the name “Kalpataru” was suggested by Rashtrakavi, Jnanapeetha awardee Prof. K.V. Puttappa (Kuvempu)...
